Iro and Buba: Modern Twist – StyleByToyoC x TokaToka

Hi,

A little bit of background here, Iro and Buba is the traditional attire attributed to the Yoruba culture in Nigeria. The Iro is the wrapper and the Buba is the top. As fashion is evolving, the younger generation have found new ways to keep the style modern but still keeping the traditional attire alive. TokaToka created a modern twist to the Iro and Buba while keeping it chic. I love the floral silk print material and how it flows on the body. The modern interpretation of the wrapper is gorgeous; wrap skirt with ruffles. I felt comfortable and chic wearing this outfit.

WHAT’S THE FUSS ABOUT THE PUFF?

Hi,

Thank God it’s Friday. Any plans for the weekend? I have a busy weekend though. Is it me or this month is going by so fast? What’s the fuss about the puff sleeves? I am sold on this trend..From the bell sleeves, formerly considered hippy and Bohemian, now referred to as modern and utterly chic. Bell sleeves add a unique dose of fashion to the simplest outfit. Once you have your statement bell sleeves, keep the rest of your look minimal. The bishop sleeves appear more feminine and soft and balloons out towards the lower arm before gathering into a cuff at the wrist. The flounce sleeves have similar silhouette to bell sleeves, but more subtle and feminine, and best reserved for stand-out dresses and tops. Ruffle sleeves are up my alley because they are loud, fun and attention-loving. Oversized sleeves/ extra-long have dominated the world of streetstye. All these voluminous sleeves are showing serious staying power, stealing the spotlight and making women across the globe feel connected and wanting to own a piece. Just like me (hehe).

How to Wear the Oluremi Waterfall Set?

Hi,

I was freaking out when WordPress wasn’t allowing me to add new posts but thank God it’s sorted now. I realized lately that when I am purchasing outfits, they have to be versatile for the piece to be a keeper in the wardrobe. Don’t you get upset when you wear an outfit and can’t wear it differently because it’s not just versatile, I do. Are you building up your wardrobe this summer, you should consider pieces that are transitional.

That’s a Wrap…StylebyToyoC x NKWO

Hi Guys,

This look finally is up here…Yayyyy…:)

How’s your weekend going? It was raining here in Calgary, so I’ve been catching up on shows. I watched the whole season of the Quad on BET, so now looking for more series.

I am excited to share this look with you but a little background about the designer. NKWO is a womenswear label whose pieces have been featured in NYFW 2008 and collection has been sold in the luxury brand store Galeries Lafayette.

The pieces were first seen on the runway show during LFDW 2016 and I was really impressed because her pieces showed a great blend of modernity and African culture.  My love of white and denim knew new bounds. You know in 2016, I rocked a lot of white/off-white looks, white can be difficult to pull off if not done right. I usually say accessorize with bold colours and always carry a stain remover in your bag (very important hehe, trust me).
