I don’t know if you have noticed but Linen is making a comeback this summer. In past seasons, linen has been absent with the exception of the resort wear category as designers focused on man-made fabrics. Designers are getting braver and using linen with a minimalist approach but creating remarkable designs. For spring-summer 2018, French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus used it in a collection dedicated to his mother. Brock Collection showed the fabric’s Merchant Ivory-esque side in a bateauneckline embroidered dress and Akris upped its luxe credentials with an ecru trouser suit. This summer, look for linen to return to the forefront of fashionability. The fashion audience is embracing its credentials as a natural fibre made from flax plant with an easily traceable supply chain – not to mention its breathability and great texture. Not to mention, linen’s return helps create more sustainable collection as an eco-friendly but luxurious alternative to cotton.
